What We're Working On: October 2020 Board Meeting Minutes

Here’s what we talked about at the October board meeting. If I missed anything, please add it in the comments below the article.

EIJ Action Items

Cedar explained how she tacticalized them, we gave space for asking questions and modifying the language, and each wrote down our top 6 to get down to six. Then, tallied up the votes to get to the most important ones. PDFs of Vidya’s original and Tacticalized options attached.

OUTSTANDING ITEMS

  • Get Vidya’s feedback on the process, and get her Top 6

  • What is each board member’s #1 absolutely essential item from the longer list? How does that compare to the consensus-based Top 6?

  • Have the discussion of why we want to diversify and why equity matters to us. Important to set a baseline why to ensure we’re not just doing it to ‘check a box’

October Newsletter

This is a sh** or get off the pot newsletter. Update on what direction SFUSA is taking and how we’re going with them to work as a bridge-builder within the MN food justice community and Slow Food National/International.

Newsletter includes: Member call, office hours, terra madre, EIJ action items, a candid state of the chapter (we need your help, you are this movement)

Outstanding Items

  • Cedar build second draft to look at during office hours

  • Cedar and Ann pick three date options for a member call to send to Anna Mule and the board

Interactive Volunteer Onboarding

Cedar is in the process of building interactive volunteer onboarding. This is something board members, volunteers, and chapter members can all use to orient themselves to the direction we’re going and how they want to be in relationship with the chapter.

Office Hours

These are ongoing times for space to be held for board members to do work together.

Current hours are: Tuesday 3:30-4:30, Wednesday 4-5:30, Saturday 10:30-12:30.

OUTSTANDING ITEMS

  • Board members need to be candid about whether or not you will use these, and what times you expect to show up—give consistent ‘best times’ for you if the current times do not work.

  • Do we want to have specific items chosen ahead of time that we’ll work on during each office hours? Or do we want to leave it open to what we’ll work on based on who shows up? Ongoing conversation about how we want office hours to function so they work best for everyone.

Slow Food Youth Network Equity, Justice, Inclusion podcast

A podcast episode from July that candidly articulates where Slow Food USA is right now and where we can/need to go from here to build an equitable organization.
